Balance bikes
Balance bikes for children from around 18 months develop balance and coordination. Once children master a balance bike, they can usually move straight to a pedal bike without stabilisers.

Why start with a balance bike?
A balance bike teaches the hardest part first: balancing. Pedalling is then easier, so the transition is usually quick and natural. Look for low weight and the right saddle height: your child must be able to place both feet flat on the ground comfortably. Once they outgrow it, 12-inch children’s bikes are the next step. See our children’s bike buying guide for advice.
