Product detailed description
The Varia RearVue 820 brings two significant improvements over the previous generation: the radar can now classify the size of an approaching vehicle — distinguishing between motorcycles, cars, vans, and lorries — and it can track vehicles travelling at the same speed, which older radars struggled to detect. The update also adds an automatic brake light with its own distinctive flash pattern, as well as USB-C charging.
Ideal for: road and touring cyclists who ride in traffic and want full awareness of traffic approaching from behind — whether paired with an Edge cycle computer, the Varia app on a smartphone, or compatible Garmin watches.
Radar and Vehicle Detection
The radar detects vehicles up to 175 m away with a 220° field of view and a 60° beam width. When paired with Edge x40 and x50 series or Edge 1050 cycle computers via secure Bluetooth, it displays not just distance and threat level but also vehicle size and lane position. With older ANT+ computers, the radar operates in standard mode — alerting you to approaching vehicles and their threat level, but without the advanced size and lane data.

Rear Light and Brake Light
The light is visible up to 2 km away and offers four modes: daytime flash, night flash, steady, and peloton (reduced output to avoid dazzling riders behind you). Custom flash patterns can be created via the Varia app. The brake light automatically detects deceleration and triggers a distinct flash pattern, alerting other road users that you are slowing down.

Alerts and Compatibility
The radar connects via ANT+ or Bluetooth to the Varia app on a smartphone, compatible Edge® cycle computers, or compatible Garmin watches. Alerts can be visual, audible, or haptic. Selected Garmin watches also support spoken vehicle alerts — this feature is currently available through Garmin's public beta programme³. Core radar functions (vehicle detection and threat level) are also compatible with third-party ANT+ cycle computers.

Jízdu bez radaru už si nedokážu představit. Mám neustálý přehled o autech a nemusím se otáčet. Dříve jsem používal starší model a už ten fungoval výborně, u RearVue je ale vidět další posun. V kombinaci s Garmin Edge funguje vše automaticky a bez problémů. Příjemné je i nabíjení přes USB-C.
